Serenity
By Kathryn Evans
Thunder echoes in the distance
As lightening shatters the dark
The power is cut away as we fumble in the black
Gloom surrounds us but is banished by a match
Candles are lit and light is given back to us
The darkness presses down but isn’t quite as immense
Quiet comes as the storm passes
No humming computers, no music or television
Just rain gently pouring and cleansing the earth
Through my open window I can smell the world
The clean smell of rain and wind
The heady scents of my candles fading to the background
The world seems calm and distant
Everything is far away and must wait till tomorrow
Now there is only rain and the flickering candle light
