Lifeblood
By
Kathryn Evans
Creativity flows like lifeblood
Like water pounding against the floodgate
Words pour into the spiral-bound notebook
Filling the pages with tight, jagged script
It builds and builds, pounding, pounding at the gate
Itching, clawing for release
My pencil moves across the paper
Thoughts coming faster than my hand can move
A hundred thoughts, a thousand
All crying to be heard, all itching for their own voice
Like water rushing through the floodgate
Creativity eventually subsides, a trickle compared to the flood
Calm comes with serenity
With pages filled and pencil dulled
Pounding calms to a gentle throb
The pulse of lifeblood throbbing in my veins
